Working closely with #DMUlocal, Moving Together is a creative dance company specialising in delivering Arts Award programmes to children and young people.
The #DMUlocal-funded project gives secondary school pupils the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised qualification through a creative experience that looks at the art form both practically and theoretically.
With the help of student volunteers, youngsters from across Leicester explore dance in a variety of forms while also gaining 35 UCAS points on completion of the Gold Award.
As a result of the support of #DMUlocal, Moving Together is able to target pupils who would not usually have access to arts programmes, allowing more children from hard-to-reach communities to take part.
The DMU Square Mile volunteers also provide pupils with an insight into university life, which in turn raises aspirations and engages children with the idea of higher education.
Volunteering also offers many benefits to DMU students, who gain valuable experience of working in a dance company to help make their CV stand out through an invaluable placement.
