Beaumont Park Football Club played host to over 200 people on Saturday as #DMUlocal celebrated the club’s coaches and supporters with a family fun day.
Alongside a free barbecue, kids were cheered on by their parents as teams from Under 8s through to Under 15s took part in mini football tournaments.
Tina Logan, Secretary at the club, said: “I think today has gone really well. Everyone has appreciated it and really enjoyed themselves and as it is free it makes it all worthwhile.
“Events like this are very important for our community because a lot of people don’t get to see things like this. It’s keeping the kids off the street and giving them something to do on a Saturday afternoon.”
The day, organised by #DMUlocal in partnership with the club, gave everyone an opportunity to thank the hard working coaches who have given up their time to make sure local children can take part and have fun.
Spirits were high as everyone enjoyed free refreshments and football, before a signed Leicester City football, shirt and Leicester Tigers rugby ball were raffled off to close the event.
Last weekend’s event is just one of a variety of activities #DMUlocal has been undertaking in Beaumont Leys over the past year.
DMU Square Mile volunteers ensured a youth club remained open by giving up their time to help run it, while business students have been helping organisations in the area with free advice.
