Leicester is the latest city to join the European End Street Homelessness Campaign, which seeks to identify people who are street-homeless in the local community so that they can be helped off the streets. The campaign will include an overnight street count which will see 80 volunteers locating and surveying people who are sleeping out.
#DMUlocal is leading volunteer recruitment in partnership with Action Homeless, and we’re looking for staff and students to come forward and get involved. We would like volunteers to support an overnight street count on Tuesday 7 November, as well as visiting day centres, hostels and accommodation projects talking to rough sleepers to hear their experiences.
The information gathered will help inform work to better support rough sleepers in Leicester, as well as resulting in more accurate figures of the numbers of people sleeping on the streets in the city.
