First student Diabetes Community Champions trainedFollowing a landmark partnership with Diabetes UK, the charity trains 12 DMU students to become Community Champions. These volunteers raise awareness and performed risk assessments in Leicester communities and by the end of 2016/17, over 120 students have been trained to work with thousands in the city.

DMU launches Square Mile IndiaFollowing the success of community projects in Leicester, DMU created Square Mile India in the slums of Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Here students work 160,000 people to help provide them basic education and healthcare, while a dedicated fund supports underprivileged children at the Gandhi Ashram.

Square Mile Stem Cell Drive helps save a lifeAfter taking time out in 2014 to sign up to the Anthony Nolan Stem Cell Register at one of our events, student Sarah Olsen was matched with a woman with leukaemia in December 2015. By the beginning of 2016 she had gone through the ‘easy’ transplant and saved a life.
