School Support Volunteering

PRIMARY SCHOOL SUPPORT

Support local primary schools with Paired Reading, EAL (English as an Additional Language) Support and/or Coding.

Paired Reading: Volunteers work with pupils who need regular reading to improve their reading age and comprehension.

EAL: Volunteers provide a wide-range of language interventions. International students and students with a second language help break down language barriers with children.

Coding: Volunteers support teachers with lesson plans to teach pupils coding through programmes such as Scratch

You must be able to commit to the full project and a DBS check must be completed as soon as possible.

You will be required to travel to your school via bus and/or walking. If you use buses, #DMUlocal can reimburse you should you provide your receipt.

SECONDARY SCHOOL SUPPORT

LANCASTER ACADEMY SUPPORT

Lancaster Academy is looking for dedicated student volunteers to support in classes for disadvantaged secondary students who may be disengaged from school and therefore; enthusiasm for the project is a necessity.

You must be able to commit to the full project and a DBS check must be completed as soon as possible.

You will be required to travel to your school via bus and/or walking. If you use buses, #DMUlocal can reimburse you should you provide your receipt.

FIRST ® LEGO® LEAGUE SUPPORT

Volunteer at local school and support them in their FIRST ® LEGO® League training.  FIRST ® LEGO® League is a global robotics-based, life skills competition for teams of students aged 9 – 16 years. It develops problem-solving, critical thinking and communication skills. As a volunteer you will support school students weekly to work on their competition before the tournament day in Jan 2018.

Please note you will need to be placed in a school by mid-October at the latest so we would encourage you to sign up as soon as possible.

Training date: 16th October 2018 from 3pm to 6pm

Duration: Weekly one hour sessions in schools, October to December.
