Rethinking Refugee Support

De Montfort University has committed to creating a support programme of activity for refugees and asylum seekers under the umbrella of #DMUlocal.

The #DMUlocal Refugee Support Programme offers a wide range of activities, from mentoring young refugees into further education through to providing skill development sessions based from various partner charities located across Leicester.

In 2017, #DMUlocal was in a strong position to collaborate with the United Nations (UN) TOGETHER campaign. A campaign that promotes respect, safety and dignity for refugees and migrants.

As part of the collaboration with the #JoinTogether campaign, existing and new activities run by #DMUlocal would be endorsed by the UN, reaching greater audiences and offering an enhanced student experience at DMU.

The programme of activity would aim to achieve the #JoinTogether campaign’s key objective: creating a different narrative on refugees and migration, emphasising the benefits of migration and diversity, whilst acknowledging that genuine concerns exist.
